Summertime!

Wed May 23, 2007, 7:11 PM
I know, I know...I am not very good with keep up with DA at all, but I do try and look over everyone's work when I get online, even though I don't put up my new work. I hope everyone's summer is going well...Mine has been busy as usual.
News...I made it through my first year of college! I had a good year, but 2nd semester was a little boring just because all I did was ride Knight, who was boarded on campus, do school work, and hung out a little with friends. I didn't get to show as much as I had hoped, though. I did meet a lot of great people!
I did show Knight, my Welsh/Arab pony, at a Feb. dressage schooling show and got 3 seconds, two of which were behind my sister, Megan, and her pony mare, Pegasus, who won all their classes. I showed Mocha, our Saddlebred/Arabian, at an open, rated dressage show in Training Level and won our class and I got Reserve Champion High Point Junior Rider with the score I got on him. My sister and Cafe, full brother to Mocha, won their classes in 1st and 2nd level.
Cafe foundered last month (and he's only 8) in one of his hoof's and probably won't be able to be ridden for another month or so. Foundering does run in the family on his mother's side. His grandmother foundered so many times and so badly, at the end (in her 20s) she had to be put down. Jaharah, Cafe's mother, has not foundered yet, and we hope she doesn't. We almost lost Khelsea, our Arabian mare, again right before Cafe foundered. She coliced real badly and we thought we were going to have to put her down. But she made it through...She has already had colic surgery when she was younger.
As for summer break, I have been riding almost everyday about two or three horses a day. Mocha is possibly leaving for his new home in Florida & Virginia (yes, he will have two homes) in a couple weeks. The woman is buying him as a trail horse and a horse for her to further her riding skills on. She might show him or ride him in competitive trail rides at some point, but that is not her goal currently.
Dance, our Welsh Pony who is for sale or lease, went to a local show on Sat. and with my sister received Reserve Champion Schooling Hunter and 1st place in Hunter Hack.
We have Arabian shows, GAHA Summer Classic I & II, in a couple weeks and will be taking Knight and Pegasus, to show in dressage and working hunter, and Kid, to be shown in Dressage, Sport Horse Under Saddle, and Sport Horse In Hand. We hope to qualify Knight and Pegasus for the Region 12 Working Hunter Championships which is a few days after the show.
Also, news on our Arabian colt, JAG Khalahari. He is doing fantastic! At his first show he got Reserve Champion Junior Stallion, at his second show he received Champion Stallion, and at the Region 12 Championships he got Top Five in 2 year old Colts! He is so beautiful and has amazing movement! He will be shown at the GAHA Summer shows as well in Halter and Sport Horse In Hand. JAG Kharisma, his half sister, is being prepared to start under saddle. She turned 3 years old in April. She is being lunged with a bridle, sircingle, and side reins. My mom just put a western saddle on her last week to start her getting used to it. She will probably go to professional western training in the winter after she gets a good start at home.
We don't really know what we are going to do after the GAHA shows. My sister and I wanted to get into some schooling events/combined training shows to see how we like it and would do with the ponies, but we probably will just end up going to some local hunter shows since the facilities are closer. But then our dressage trainer told us we should try to qualify for USDF Regionals on the ponies in Dressage Equitation. So many choices but it will all depend on time...I want to go to the beach and travel some! I think my family will be taking some trips around after our big Arabian show..Maybe go to Aiken, Florida somewhere, maybe Washington DC, Memphis, Chattanooga, maybe even Virginia again! I think my mom is sort of sick of going to the same beach for almost 18 years for vacations lol
I hope everyone's summer is going well and I will hopefully start posting some new work soon!

The New Year

Sun Jan 7, 2007, 9:22 PM
Wow, time definitely flew by my first semester at college. It was great! I had so much fun, even though it was hard work. I have met some of the greatest people at college, as well as some other awesome photographers that are always helpful.
I haven't shown my own horses since summer, but I was showing on my college's equestrian team. I had so much fun being on the team and learned so much. It was a great experience. But while my sister and I were gone to college our trainer showed two of our National Show horse geldings, Cafe (showing 1st and 2nd level) and Mocha (his first show), at USDF rated dressage shows, winning several classes. We are so proud of them!
Khalahari, our Arab colt by *Dakar El Jamaal, is definitely growing up fast and is currently in training in SC. We went to see him yesterday and all I can saw is-WOW, he is hot!! As in sexy! lol I love his personality! His half sister, Khari, by The Firelord+, is growing up to be the biggest sweet heart ever (she's almost 3 years old). I think she is going to be fun to ride. My sister and I want her as our working hunter/dressage horse but my mom wants her to do western pleasure. She has the built to do any of that, but we'll she how she is when we start ground working her.

This coming semester my sister and I are bringing two of our ponies to college with us, preparing to show dressage in open shows and hopefully some combined training. I will be bringing Knight, my Welsh/Arabian pony gelding, who I haven't shown since 2005, but was shown at a local hunter show by a beginner rider in the beginning of 06. I am going to really focus on his dressage and hopefully will be showing him training and first level this year. Kid, my National Show Horse gelding, has been back home for a while now after showing at Arabian and Half Arabian Nationals in Western Pleasure Open and ATR. He is now to become another one of our dressage/hunter horses. I really see him as my potential eventing horse...But we have plenty of things to work on before that happens.
I am soo behind on posting my new photos...But one thing that has really killed me is that I lost my CD case with all the pictures I have taken since I have had a digital camera. It makes me soooo sad and mad. I lost all the pictures I took in Ireland and at Youth Nationals. Thankfully I still had some of the pictures I took starting in Sept. 06 still on my computer...But it still doesn't make up for the almost 4 years worth of other pictures I took. I guarded it with my life and I had my name and phone number on it, but I think I might have left it on one of our equestrian team trips or it fell out of my bag one weekend when I went back home...But I have to move on.
For Christmas my dad got me a new camera so I am soooo excited about that!!

I hope everyone is doing well and hope everyone is having a happy new year!

Summer is Ending

Mon Aug 7, 2006, 7:51 PM
Summer break is definitely nearing its end...I am leaving for college next Wednesday.
Arabian and Half Arabian Youth Nationals was stressful but fun. It was wonderful seeing all these beautiful and athletic Arabians and Half Arabians that totally represent what the breed is. Wonderful show horses and kids horses. It was so much fun seeing everyone riding their horses around bareback and in halters going for their pictures with the two photography companys there.
As for our results....Megan, my sister, and JAG Café Au Lait+, "Cafe" (her Saddlebred/Arabian, National Show Horse), received 2006 Youth National Champion in First Level Dressage JTR 14-17, Top Ten in Training Level JTR 14-17, and Top Ten in HA/AA Hunt Seat Equitation JTR 14 to 17. Megan and Cafe had to go through three cuts for Equitation, meaning they had to ride three perfect patterns. JAG Kalico Kid+, "Kid" (my NSH), and I recieved Top Ten in HA/AA Ladies Western Sidesaddle 17 and under. TF Tsanzibar, "Zanzibar" (Talaria Farm's purebred Arabian), and I made our first cut, but didn't make it to our final cut. My sister and I took tons of pictures and had tons of fun watching the classes, esp., Hunter Hack, Working Hunter, and HA English Pleasure and HA Park.
Over the weekend we went to the GAHA Summer Classic at the International Horse Park in Conyers, GA, Friday through Sunday. Our three riding horses went with only four days of riding, due to being out of town for Nationals for 9 days. Megan and Pegasus received Champion Half Arabian Sport Horse Under Saddle Junior to Ride, 1st in HA Hunter Hack, 1st in First Level Test 1, and 3d in First Level Test 1. Des and I received Champion Arabian Sport Horse Under Saddle Junior To Ride, 1st in Purebred Arabian Mares Sport Horse In Hand Junior To Handle, 1st in Model Hunter, 2nd in First Level Test 3, and 3rd in First Level Test 1. Elated and my mom received 2nd in First Level Test 4. I think they did awesome for being out of shape!! They are such hard workers. Khari, our purebred Arabian filly, who is now two years old, also went after being in halter training for a while. She received Reserve Champion in Arabian Sport Horse Mares In Hand Open, 2nd in Arabian Sport Horse Mares 2 years old and under, Champion Arabian Sport Horse Mares Amateur to Handle, 1st in Arabian Halter Mares 2 years old, and Reserve Champion Arabian Mares.
Khari came home after the show and will be home until next year, when the halter trainer will come back to look at her again, to see if she is quality to show as a three year old and at Regionals. Next year she will be worked/lunged with bridle, sircingle, side reins, and possibility saddle, but won't be started under saddle until 2008. Khari has definitely grown up. She looks a lot like her mother and she is sooo sweet. She is being re-introduced to our mare's herd and Des is not being very welcoming. Des just doesn't have very good herd manners.
This is probably the last week we will get to work with the horses until someday we come home from college....My sister and I will be trying out for our equestrian team at our school, but we will see if we get on it or not.
We are going to go to Tybee Island for a few days at the end of the week, just to feel the last of the summer weather there. We probably will be going there for Thanksgiving or New Years but it will probably be too cold to do much.
I don't know how much time I will have to get on DA once school starts...Just wanted to warn you!
I hope everyone has had a good weekend and will have a great week!!

Make sure to check my family's farm website for updates on our horses show results, pictures, and other items: [link] It is usually easier for me to update pictures there for our horses than have time to put them on DA.

New Mexico Here I Come

Thu Jul 20, 2006, 7:30 PM
Hey everyone, hope you are having a wonderful summer! Sorry for not posting anything recently or been commenting on your works, been really busy. I am really behind on posting my photos, including those from Ireland, from the Youth Jamboree horse show, from Tybee, and new photos from my family’s horses are home. I probably won’t be able to post many more until I after I get home from Arabian and Half Arabian Youth Nationals in New Mexico, which I am leaving for on Saturday and won’t be back until July 30th. I think it's hot here in Georgia, but I know its going to be a killer in New Mexico. I will also have tons of pictures from New Mexico…We will have three digital cameras, each with an extra memory card…Not missing any good photo opportunities! :0) This will be the first and last time I will be going to Youth Nationals. I am very nervous but excited as well…The horses will be perfect, but will I be able to ask them everything correctly and ride my best? Well, lets hope so! *must concentrate very hard on every little detail* *drills western habits into head* Sometimes I get the urge to do a English half-halt instead of a western “check”…Very bad. lol
Well, I hope everyone has a great rest of the week and thank you for all your wonderful comments and I will respond to them a.s.a.p.!

Summer!

Sun May 28, 2006, 8:03 PM
I have GRADUATED high school!! Yay! Summer is finally here! But I am definitely going to miss all my friends when we go off to college. I had many relatives visiting for graduation, which was nice because I usually only get to see them about once, and rarely twice, a year. I saw the DaVinci Code today and I loved it! I was only a quarter way through the book but I will definitely be finishing the book even with seeing the movie.
My mother, sister, and I will be heading off to Ireland on Friday and will be gone for over a week. I am soooo EXCITED!! I only wish my dad would have been able to come with us but he has to work! We are staying at Kinnitty Castle for most of the time, with riding out on horseback almost everyday around the Irish countryside. We will also be visiting the Irish National Stud. A couple days after getting back from Ireland my sister and I will be going to SOAR, Berry College orientation. June 19-23, I will attending the Arab and Half Arab Region 12 Youth Jamboree clinics and seminars in Alpharetta, GA. June 24-25 will be the “A” Region 12 Youth Jamboree Arab and Half Arab show, I will be attending with Des and my sister will be showing Café and Pegasus. My friend will be showing my 20 year old Arabian gelding in hunter pleasure, dressage equitation, sport horse under saddle, and sport horse in hand. I will be showing Des in dressage, sport horse under saddle, sport horse in hand, and working hunter. Every day I have free this summer I will be spending down at the barn working, hanging out with the horses, riding horses, and hanging out with my friends, as well as hopefully checking up on some reading (I have tons of books I have bought and never have gotten to read and I love reading!!). I know this summer is going to fly by and I am going to make the most of it!
To see my family’s results for the Region 12 Arabian and Half Arabian Championships check out: [link] It was an stressful, hard, but exciting and fun week at Regionals!!

In the beginning of July I will be going to Tybee Island for some time (not sure how long yet). Then July 22 my mother, sister, and I, and hopefully our friend Elizabeth, will be heading to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the Youth National Arabian & Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show. I will be showing Kid, my Arabian/Saddlebred gelding, in HA Western Pleasure JOTR & JTR and HA Ladies Western Sidesaddle JTR, and Zanzibar, Allison Mehta’s Arabian gelding, in Purebred Western Pleasure JTR. My sister will be showing her Arabian/Saddlebred gelding, Café, in dressage (hopefully training level, 1st level, and 2nd level) and Hunt Seat Equitation. I am soooo excited for YNs! It will be my sister and my last and first year to go to Youth Nationals so hopefully it will be an event to remember!!

I hope everyone is doing well and hope you have a great summer!!
